Infapro

Forest restoration

Eleven kilometres from the Danum Valley Field Centre along the road into the Conservation Area, Infapro — the Innoprise-FACE Foundation Rainforest Rehabilitation Project — has been replanting selectively logged forest with indigenous dipterocarps since 1992. Around 11,864 hectares have now been rehabilitated across nine planting contracts, making it the largest forest restoration project under Yayasan Sabah, and a widely cited model for tropical reforestation elsewhere in the region. Accommodation sits between the Field Centre's austerity and the Lodge's comfort — resthouses with hot showers and 24-hour electricity — and the surrounding mosaic of restored, remnant and open habitat draws a distinctive mix of wildlife moving between Ulu Segama and Danum proper.

Best for: Restoration project, mosaic habitat, lower-cost base
Mammals: Bornean Orangutan, Bornean Elephant, Sun Bear, Sunda Clouded Leopard, Sunda Slow Loris, Malay Civet, Western Tarsier
Other: Bornean Gibbon, Red Leaf Monkey, Sunda Colugo
