Langom sits in the buffer zone of the Danum Valley Conservation Area, close enough to the Field Centre that guests can use its trail network for daytime walking and birding, while Langom's own 4WD safari roads add the kind of night-drive terrain that made Deramakot's reputation — both from the same base. For anyone stuck weighing up Danum against Deramakot, Langom is worth putting on the shortlist as an answer rather than a compromise. Completed in 2024 and officially launched in June 2025 by Yayasan Sabah with the Sabah Forestry Department and Universiti Malaysia Sabah, funded under the 12th Malaysia Plan, it's still building a track record — but what's come out of it so far has been good. Marbled Cat sightings have been frequent enough to note, this is turning into a reliable spot for Bornean Bristlehead, one of the harder endemics to pin down elsewhere, and orangutan encounters are regular. The forest mosaic around the station adds range of its own — primary Danum-age rainforest, regenerating INFAPRO-style restoration forest, and a riparian corridor along the river — and the ridge-top access road is turning into one of the better stretches in the area for nocturnal, arboreal species. It shares Danum's forest, without the Field Centre's crowds.
