About the Starry Lanternfly

Named for the pale, star-like spotting across its dark wings, recorded from lowland and riverine forest in Sabah, including well-known wildlife-watching areas along the Kinabatangan River and at Tawau Hills.

Its contrasting dark wings with scattered pale spots make it one of the more visually distinctive Bornean Pyrops when found resting on a trunk, though it remains just as reliant on stillness for camouflage as its plainer relatives.

Not assessed for conservation status.
