Lambir National Park

Rainforest / waterfalls

A compact park near Miri that holds a genuine scientific record: a long-term 52-hectare research plot here has recorded over 1,200 tree species, one of the highest tree diversities per hectare ever measured anywhere on the planet. That botanical richness supports a proportionally rich understorey and canopy fauna, though most visitors come for the more immediate appeal of accessible waterfalls and swimming holes reachable on well-marked trails through hill dipterocarp forest.

Best for: waterfalls, exceptional tree diversity, accessible trails
Mammals: Long-tailed Macaque
Birds: Rhinoceros Hornbill, Great Argus
Other: Bornean Gibbon
