Gunung Gading National Park

Rafflesia reserve

A compact park near Lundu in western Sarawak built around a single extraordinary attraction: Rafflesia, the world's largest flower, whose blooms here can exceed 80cm across and last only a few days once open. Because blooming is unpredictable and short-lived, the park maintains a bloom hotline so visitors can time their trip — a level of species-specific infrastructure few other parks bother with. Away from the flowers, short accessible trails lead to waterfalls and natural swimming pools through lowland rainforest.

Best for: Rafflesia blooms, waterfalls, short accessible trails
Mammals: Long-tailed Macaque
Birds: Rhinoceros Hornbill
Lizards: Bornean Angle-headed Lizard
