About the Whitehead's Lanternfly

Named after John Whitehead, the nineteenth-century naturalist who collected extensively on Mount Kinabalu, this Pyrops is recorded from Sabah's lowland forest, including well-surveyed sites such as Danum Valley and Sepilok.

Follows the general Pyrops pattern of an elongated snout and patterned wings, spending most of its time motionless on tree trunks and detected most reliably on guided night walks.

Not assessed for conservation status.
