A montane litter frog restricted to the Kinabalu region, in the same large-eyed genus as the more widespread lowland litter frog, with the bold iris colouring typical of male Leptobrachium.

Found in leaf litter near montane streams at higher elevation than most Bornean litter frogs, nocturnal, feeding on small invertebrates on the forest floor.
