An unusual toad and the only member of its genus, more aquatic than almost any other Southeast Asian toad — smooth-skinned rather than warty, with well-developed webbing between the toes for swimming.

Found in peat swamp forest and still, blackwater pools rather than the rocky streams favoured by most toads, spending much of its time in the water itself; poorly documented and infrequently recorded.
