Banded Bullfrog

A stocky, rounded frog marked with a pale band running along each flank, one of the most widely recognised frogs in Asia and — thanks to the pet and food trade — now introduced well beyond its native range. Inflates itself and secretes distasteful mucus when threatened.

Spends much of its time buried in loose soil, emerging after heavy rain to call loudly and breed explosively in temporary pools; highly tolerant of gardens and disturbed land, so often the first frog visitors hear around lodges after rain.
