An unmistakable bird with a fan-like crest, pinkish-brown plumage and black-and-white barred wings, classed as rare/accidental in Borneo where it lies outside its usual open-country range.
Forages by probing its long curved bill into soil and leaf litter for insects, and is normally found in drier open habitats rather than the forested landscapes typical of Borneo.
