A pale, heart-faced owl with golden-buff upperparts and near-white underparts, widespread across open country, oil palm plantations and farmland where rodents are abundant.
Hunts silently at night on broad rounded wings, and has become an important natural control on rat populations in Borneo's plantations, where nest boxes are often erected to encourage it.
