Common Treeshrew

A small, alert, squirrel-like mammal with a pointed snout and bushy tail — not a true rodent, but a member of the separate order Scandentia, more closely related to primates than to squirrels. The most widespread and frequently seen treeshrew in Sabah.

Highly active by day, foraging on the ground and in low vegetation for insects, fruit and seeds. Notably has one of the shortest known nursing routines of any mammal — mothers visit the nest to feed young for only a few minutes roughly every other day.
