Silvered Langur

A slender, long-tailed leaf monkey with a grizzled silvery-grey coat and a small crest on the crown; the tail and crest carry a faint yellowish tinge, and there is no bold white or grey patch on the forehead — both useful marks for ruling out Borneo's grey Presbytis langurs, none of which share this yellow-tinted tail. Infants are born a strikingly bright orange, gradually moulting to adult colouring over several months — a useful field mark when scanning a troop.

Found in coastal, mangrove and riverine forest, often alongside proboscis monkeys, and similarly reliant on leaves fermented in a specialised stomach. Troops are social, typically led by a single dominant male, and move through the mid-to-upper canopy rather than descending to the ground often.
