Males are glossy black-headed with a chestnut back and dramatically long black tail streamers, while females are shorter-tailed with a duller rufous-brown back and grey throat.
A rare and accidental passage migrant or winter visitor in Borneo, breeding in Japan and Korea and wintering mainly further west, so any Bornean record is notable.
