Bornean Mountain Ground Squirrel

A ground-dwelling squirrel restricted to Borneo's high mountains, including Kinabalu, where it is often noticeably tame around park facilities. Long placed in the genus Dremomys with mainland Asia's long-nosed squirrels, recent genetic work has moved it into Sundasciurus alongside Borneo's other small tree and ground squirrels.

Terrestrial and diurnal, foraging in leaf litter and montane forest floor for invertebrates, fungi and fruit — one of relatively few Bornean mammals confined to cool, high-elevation habitat.
