Asian House Shrew

A common, greyish shrew widespread across South and Southeast Asia, frequently found around human habitation as well as in natural habitat — likely the shrew species most visitors will actually encounter, often at lodges after dark.

Active mainly at night, constantly foraging for invertebrates due to a very high metabolic rate, and producing a distinctive high-pitched chittering call.
