A very pale, almost white tern with a neat black nape band, characteristic of clear tropical reef waters and a regular sight around Borneo's offshore islands and coral reefs.
Feeds by plunge-diving for small fish over shallow reef flats and lagoons, and often breeds on small sandy or rocky islets within its Bornean range.
