The bulkiest of the regularly encountered skuas, with distinctive twisted spoon-shaped central tail feathers in breeding adults, recorded off Borneo as a scarce non-breeding visitor and passage migrant.
Feeds by robbing other seabirds of their catch as well as scavenging and hunting small prey directly, typically seen singly well out to sea rather than close inshore.
