A rare cave-roosting fruit bat named for a bare strip of skin down the centre of the back where the wing membranes meet, giving a naked-backed appearance when the wings are folded.
Shares its genus's unusual tongue-clicking echolocation, used for orientation in dark cave roosts. Recorded much less frequently than the more common Geoffroy's rousette.
