A cave-roosting fruit bat and one of the very few pteropodid (Old World fruit bat) species capable of crude echolocation, produced by tongue-clicking rather than the laryngeal calls used by true echolocating bats — an adaptation that helps it navigate dark cave interiors.
Roosts communally in caves, sometimes in large numbers, and forages on fruit and nectar at night in surrounding forest and cultivated land.
