A large, long-billed partridge — unusually long and slightly decurved for the family — with rich rufous-brown plumage well camouflaged against forest-floor leaf litter.
Far more often heard than seen: pairs give a loud, far-carrying duet of whistled notes at dawn and dusk that carries well through lowland and hill forest, long before any bird is glimpsed on the ground.
