A member of the Rhinolophus trifoliatus group described in 2015 from a specimen collected in Sabah in 1983, and named in honour of bat researcher Charles M. Francis.
Known from only a handful of records across Borneo and one in Thailand, closely resembling the more familiar Trefoil Horseshoe Bat in size and echolocation call frequency.
