A secretive crake with a rich chestnut head and breast contrasting with olive-brown upperparts, skulking through damp undergrowth near forest streams.
Recorded in Borneo only rarely as a wintering visitor or vagrant, it stays low and hidden, more often heard giving sharp calls at dusk than seen in the open.
