A stocky, boldly patterned python, more terrestrial and shorter-bodied than the reticulated python, with reddish-brown blotched colouring, found in lowland forest, plantations and swampy areas.

A non-venomous ambush predator, feeding on small mammals, hunting mainly at night from a coiled ambush position on the forest floor.
