A colourful, thick-billed babbler of montane forest, males showing a black cap, grey nape and yellow-and-white wing markings, usually found in pairs joining mixed-species foraging flocks.
Gleans insects from foliage and small branches in the mid-storey and canopy, favouring cooler hill and mountain forest across its wide but scattered Southeast Asian range.
