Hose's Langur

A grey-coated langur of northern and eastern Borneo, named after the naturalist Charles Hose. It sits at the centre of a small group of very similar grey Presbytis langurs — the Sabah grey langur and Miller's grizzled langur were both only split from this species as recently as 2014 — and is described by a high forehead with a forward-sloping crest, a 'bandit mask' of black stripes over pink facial skin, and a small white tuft at the crown.

Lives in small troops with small home ranges, moving through the mid-canopy and feeding mainly on leaves, with a four-chambered stomach that gives it a slightly pot-bellied look. Confident field separation from the Sabah grey langur and Miller's grizzled langur usually depends on knowing which part of Borneo you're in, more than on plumage alone. Vulnerable (IUCN); local densities were reported to have fallen 50–80% between 1996 and 2003.
