A colonial weaver best known for its elaborate, retort-shaped nests woven from grass strips and suspended from palm fronds or thorny branches over water.
Breeding males acquire a bright yellow crown and dark face against otherwise streaky brown plumage, and perform display flights near the nest to attract females.
