A vividly coloured migratory pitta with green upperparts, bright blue wing patches and buff underparts, passing through or wintering in Borneo's forests and edge habitats after breeding on the mainland.
Forages on the ground for insects and worms, flicking leaf litter aside, and often gives its loud two-note whistle at dawn and dusk during its stay.
