A pitta of the Wallacean region closely related to the Noisy Pitta group, showing warm buff underparts and a green back, foraging quietly on the floor of lowland forest.
Feeds by turning over leaf litter for insects and worms, and like other pittas relies on its loud whistled call to announce its presence in dense forest cover.
