A deep blue and maroon-breasted bird of the forest understorey, quieter and less often seen than its relative the Rufous-winged Philentoma, and classed as Near-threatened owing to lowland forest loss.
Perches in shaded mid-storey vegetation, sallying out to snatch insects before returning to cover, and depends on continuous tracts of lowland dipterocarp forest that are increasingly fragmented.
