One of the largest gliding mammals in the world, with a rich reddish coat and a wide gliding membrane (patagium) stretched between wrist and ankle, capable of controlled glides well over 50-100m between tall trees.
Strictly nocturnal, resting by day in tree hollows and emerging at dusk to feed on leaves, fruit and bark. Night drives and spotlighting at forest edges are the best way to see a glide silhouetted against the sky.
