A small migratory scops owl, occurring in both grey and rufous colour morphs, that passes through or winters in Bornean forest, woodland and even wooded gardens.
Roosts pressed against a tree trunk by day, relying on cryptic plumage and ear-tufts to resemble broken bark, and reveals itself mainly by its soft, repeated single-note call at night.
