Mantanani Scops-Owl

A small owl of coastal forest, scrub and mangrove edge, named for the Mantanani Islands off Sabah where it was first described, with warm rufous-brown plumage.

Restricted largely to lowland coastal habitats, it gives a short, gruff repeated call at dusk, and is a localized species of particular interest to birders visiting Borneo's coastal fringes.
