A striking oriole with glossy black plumage set off by a deep crimson breast and rump, found singly or in pairs in the canopy of hill and lower montane forest.
Feeds on fruit and insects taken in the treetops, and its far-carrying whistled calls are often the first clue to its presence in dense forest.
