A strikingly black-and-white pelagic tern that spends most of its life on the wing far from land, occurring off Borneo mainly as a non-breeding visitor over deeper offshore waters.
Rarely settles on the water, instead snatching prey from just below the surface in flight, and often gathers in large, noisy colonies when breeding on remote tropical islands.
