A stocky heron with a rich rufous crown, back and wings, and pale grey underparts, closely resembling the more familiar Black-crowned Night Heron in build and habits.
Primarily a bird of Australasian and Wallacean wetlands, occurring in Borneo only as a rare vagrant well outside its normal range.
