The widespread slow loris of Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia and nearby islands. Before Borneo's own slow lorises were split into separate species in 2013, Bornean populations were sometimes classified as subspecies of this species — but under current taxonomy, this species itself is not confirmed to occur on Borneo at all. Bornean populations are now assigned to the Philippine, Bornean or Kayan River slow lorises instead.
Dark rings around the eyes meeting a dark dorsal stripe give it an 'inverse teardrop' look distinct from its Bornean relatives. Nocturnal and slow-climbing, with the genus's toxic bite and an omnivorous diet of fruit, gum and insects. Endangered (IUCN, uplisted from Vulnerable in 2020), driven heavily by the pet trade — captured animals commonly have their teeth pulled, with high resulting mortality.
