A resident hawk-owl closely resembling the migratory Northern Boobook, dark brown above with streaked buff underparts, found in lowland and hill forest across Borneo.
Hunts flying insects and small vertebrates from a perch at dusk, and its far-carrying, monotonously repeated call is a familiar sound of forest nights.
