Another of the region's 'fishing bats', named after the naturalist Johan Coenraad van Hasselt, with enlarged feet and claws adapted to raking prey from the water surface.
Forages low over rivers, streams and pools at night for aquatic insects and occasionally small fish, roosting by day in caves, hollow trees or structures close to water.
