A slender, mostly green bee-eater with a turquoise-blue rump and tail and elongated central tail streamers, a common migrant and winter visitor over open country, coasts and rice paddies.
Feeds by sallying from an exposed perch or wire to catch bees, wasps and dragonflies in flight, often gathering in loose flocks at favoured feeding areas.
