A distinctive partridge, the male almost entirely glossy black, the female warm rufous-brown, both walking the shaded floor of lowland forest in pairs or small groups.
Classed as Vulnerable due to ongoing loss of lowland forest across Sundaland, it is a scarce and elusive resident of Borneo's remaining lowland forest tracts.
