A widespread Sundaland spiny rat named after the naturalist John Whitehead, found across a broad elevational range from lowland to montane forest.
Terrestrial and nocturnal, foraging in leaf litter for fruit, seeds and invertebrates, and among the more regularly trapped small mammals across Borneo's forest-floor surveys.
