A widespread and often abundant Sundaland spiny rat with a rich reddish-brown coat, among the most frequently trapped small mammals in Bornean forest-floor surveys.
Terrestrial and nocturnal, foraging for fruit, seeds and invertebrates in leaf litter. Its relative abundance makes it a useful indicator species in small-mammal ecology studies.
