One of the smaller Bornean-endemic spiny rats, sharing the genus's bristly coat texture but with a notably more compact build than most of its Maxomys relatives.
Terrestrial and nocturnal, foraging in leaf litter and forest floor debris for fruit, seeds and invertebrates, broadly similar in habits to Borneo's other spiny rats.
