A medium dabbling duck, breeding males showing a chestnut head with a pale forehead stripe and a pinkish breast, often grazing on land more than most ducks.
True range lies well to the north across Eurasia; in Borneo it is only a rare and accidental winter vagrant, far from its usual wintering grounds.
