Sunda Pangolin

A heavily armoured, toothless mammal covered in overlapping keratin scales, with a long, sticky tongue used to extract ants and termites from nests. When threatened, it curls tightly into a ball, scales outermost, as its primary defence.

Solitary and mainly nocturnal, spending time both on the ground and climbing, aided by a strong prehensile tail. Critically Endangered — pangolins are the most heavily trafficked mammal group in the world for the illegal wildlife trade, and sightings in the wild are now rare anywhere in Southeast Asia.
