A larger, more robust litter frog than the dwarf Leptobrachella species, with mottled brown camouflage and — in males of this genus — often striking orange or red iris colouring.

Found on the forest floor near streams in lowland forest, mainly nocturnal, feeding on small invertebrates in leaf litter.
