A common and widespread migrant shrike, warm brown above with a black mask and hooked bill, regularly seen perched prominently on wires, fences and low bushes in open habitats.
Impales or wedges captured insects and small prey on thorns as a food cache, and is one of the most frequently encountered winter shrikes across Borneo's lowlands.
