A medium-sized fish eagle with grey-brown plumage and a pale head, found along forested rivers and streams, generally scarcer and more habitat-specific than the grey-headed fish eagle.
Hunts fish from a riverside perch, favouring smaller, quieter forest streams over the large open rivers preferred by other fish eagles.
