One of the larger Hylarana frogs recorded in Borneo, sharing the pale upper-lip stripe typical of the white-lipped frog group but at a notably greater size, described relatively recently as a species distinct from its smaller relatives.

Found near forest streams and pools, nocturnal, feeding on invertebrates at the water's edge; size alone helps distinguish it from Borneo's several smaller white-lipped Hylarana species.
